Three men, armed with a gun and a knife, forced their way into a home on Dawn St. on Wednesday, March 16. The suspects stole electronics and money then ran away.
According to Const. Brian Palmeter, the Halifax Regional Police were “on scene within two minutes” with both “detectives from the investigation section as well as canine”. Despite the number of resources employed, “it doesn’t look like they were able to locate anyone yet”, says Palmeter.
Palmeter says there were three people at home during the break and entry. Though the victims were threatened with the weapons, no one was injured.
Police published a news release with a description of the suspects: “one wearing a dark hoodie, with face covered. The second suspect was a white male, tall and skinny wearing a blue mask and all black clothing with black gloves on, carrying a gun. The third suspect was a white male, short, approximately 5’10’’ tall, round face with short hair and brown bangs, not wearing a mask”.
Two men who live in the area and who did not want their names published, describe their community as “full of crime, and full of drugs”. “You don’t really worry about what happens when you hear of something”, one starts, “because it didn’t happen to you”, the other finishes.
“There’s always something going on around here. That’s why you get out and move as soon as you have the chance”, says the older of the two. “There are drugs and trouble all over Dawn St.”
Palmeter says the police are “still investigating and following up on some leads”. The police encourage anyone with information to contact them (490-5016), or anonymously through Crime Stoppers (1-800-222-TIPS ).
