The Citadel High School girl’s varsity basketball team is busy practising and getting ready for the basketball provincials this weekend.

The provincials are taking place at Citadel High School and the Citadel Phoenixs’ first game is this Thursday at 2 P.M. against the Horton High Griffins.

After losing last years provincials to C.P. Allen High School, coach Ian MacRae has high aspirations for the varsity team this year.

“We’re not nervous to face anybody. I think some of the best teams we’re going to face are Grammar and Riverview which are ranked two and three,” says MacRae, about the upcoming tournament. He thinks the strengths of the team lie in their depth and defence.

In preparation Angelina Carvery, who is playing on the team for her third and final year, says, “We’ve been running a lot of situation drills. Five on five situations for a certain amount of time on the clock.” Carvery also mentioned they have been running defence drills and practising almost every day.

The provincials will mark the end of the basketball season for the girls varsity division.
