Hudak likes to think of Golden as, “A networking event for people in the fashion and beauty industry, but at the same time it’s a fun party. It’s a great opportunity to showcase different Halifax designers.”

The fashion show began at a quarter past midnight in the Capitol Theatre, located at the back of the Pacifico Dancebar. The models, who mingled with the audience before the show, donned big, frilly hair and shimmering gold makeup.

Model Amanda Rose says after she attended Golden for the first time in January, she thought, “It was well put together and everyone seemed to have a good time. I liked the concept of using it to network.”

Rose says  the Halifax fashion scene is taking a step in the right direction, with the opening of the new Fashion Merchandising program at The Centre for Arts and Technology and now, events such as Golden.

“A lot of people, before this year even, weren’t really aware that Halifax was a fashion hub. There is so much talent here. Golden helps bring awareness to that,” says Rose.

Hudak smiles as he selects the music behind the DJ booth. The models line up, wearing pieces by Kim Munson of Orphanage Clothing. The models show off their edgy, rocker chic style.

Monica Nauss, the designer for Maxwell-John Designs, showcases her clothing next. For her, this season includes bold dresses with asymmetrical shoulders.

Veronica MacIsaac ends the show with her classic plaid designs, influenced by her Scottish roots.

Hudak says each Golden event is a huge success. He wants Golden to be the fashion and music outlet for Halifax.

“There’s almost no outlet for that [fashion and music] in the city. That’s where the Golden idea came from. It’s a kind of way to put those two things together. I wanted to do something that would make people engaged in the fashion industry. I know some local designers, tons of amateur and professional photographers and models. I wanted to bring them all together, so that’s what I did.”
